Aashiqui 2 neither inspired by nor resembles Abhimaan, insists producer Mahesh Bhatt

The latest buzz is going on in tinsel town that similarity can be smelled between the upcoming musical sagaAashiqui 2and 1973 classicAbhimaan, starring Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. But producer Mahesh Bhatt has brushed off any such chances as he emphasises thatAbhimaanhas neither inspired nor holds any resemblance withAashiqui 2.

Bhatt clarified to the media, "What was unique about 'Abhimaan' was a talented successful male artist discovering a simple but talented village girl and then falling in love with her, the resemblance to 'Aashiqui 2' ends there.” He was also joined by Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, the lead pair of the film. Bhatt added, "When societies evolve, stories evolve, characters evolve. India is now drastically different from the time 'Abhimaan' was made. Apart from the earlier similarity I have mentioned, there is no similarity between the two movies.”

The veteran producer cleared the air, saying more, "The film has a lot of heart. It has a world view that the new age audiences would connect to.”Aashiqui 2is basically a love story set in the 21^stcentury, which has pain and lonelinessas its subject matter as well as other issues with which 90’s audiences would not be able to connect with, according to the producer himself.
