Abhay Deol Acquires Three Independent Movies For Digital Release

With films like ‘Ek Chalis Ki Last Local’, ‘Dev D’ and ‘One By Two’, Abhay Deol has informed everyone about his unique taste. And these days, the actor is treating his taste buds with indie films at NFDC Film Bazaar, which is currently going on in Goa and will end tomorrow, November 24. Film Bazaar has been going strong for 10 years now and showcases independent films that may or may not be in their final stage.

The actor-producer has acquired three indie films including ‘Kaagaz Ki Kashti’, ‘Labour of Love’ and ‘Leeches’. This year, he acquired Brahmanand Singh’s ‘Kaagaz Ki Kashti’ for a digital release. The movie is a documentary on the late ghazal singer Jagjit Singh. Aditya Vikram Sengupta’s ‘Labour of Love’ was showcased in 2014 while Payal Sethi’s ‘Leeches’ was part of 2015’s Viewing Room.

Abhay spoke quite highly about the projects and shared, “I saw ‘Labour of Love’ at Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles and was blown away with Aditya’s aesthetic sensibilities, and his ability to spin a story without any spoken dialogues. Payal’s ‘Leeches’ is an important film that people need to watch. She has beautifully woven a compelling story around an issue that is anathema to our social fiber and well-being”. Talking about the Jagjit Singh documentary, the actor said, “Brahmanand succeeds in powerfully bringing the legend (Jagjit Singh) back to life”.

The Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara actor also stated that the method of media consumption nowadays has changed. He feels that alternate avenues of distribution, like iTunes, Netflix and Amazon Prime, need to be adopted to bring these films to larger masses.
