    Actor Joy Mukherjee dies after prolonged illness

    Mumbai, March 12 -- Yesteryear actor Joy Mukherjee, who was often referred to as chocolaty charmer of the 1960s, breathed his last on Friday morning at an age of 73 after prolonged illness. The veteran actor, who acted in many jubilee hits of sixties, such as Love In Tokyo, Ziddi, Shagird and Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon, was admitted to Lilavati hospital on Monday in a critical condition. His last rites, attended by actress niece Kajol, composer Bappi Lahiri, actor Raza Murad and Tabassum besides family members, were performed at around 11.30 am at the Versova crematorium on Saturday. Mukherjees spokesperson said, The yesteryear actor died at the Lilavati hospital on March 9 due to prolonged illness and old age. Mukherjee is survived by his wife Neelam and three children including two sons.
