    Actor Tanuja roots for gender equality


    In a career spanning over five decades, the 73-year-old has portrayed varied characters. Actor Tanuja, a veteran actor who is known for her roles in films like Jewel Thief (1967), Haathi Mere Saathi (1971)and Anubhav (1971), Tanuja Mukerji is all set to make her TV debut with the historical drama Aarambh, on Star Plus.

    In the upcoming show, Mukherji will be seen as Hahuma - a clairvoyant. Talking about the show, she said, “Through visuals, this show will bring forth how a matriarchal society became patriarchal. But, I believe, there should be an equality among humans whether it is a girl or a boy. And through this show, we are trying to bring the change.”


    Witten by K. V. Vijayendra Prasad of Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan fame, Aarambh will narrate the clash of two civilisations - Dravidians and Aryans - born and built out of two different existential needs. Talking about the male-dominated society of modern India, Tanuja said, “We need to start listening to others. When this will happen, there will be a change in society. It is the duty of every individual to change his or her mentality. All of us need to do self introspection.”
