Aditya Chopra is keen to take a step back and focus on his directorials, says Maneesh Sharma

Director Maneesh Sharma who has been involved with the Yashraj Films since his debut Band Baaja Baaraat in 2010, revealed that Aditya Chopra is very keen on focussing on his directorial projects and is looking for creative producers so he could take a back seat.

Aditya Chopra is keen to take a step back and focus on his directorials, says Maneesh Sharma

Maneesh, who is currently helming the Shahrukh Khan starrer ‘Fan’ had made his debut as a producer with Dum Laga Ke Haisha this year. The filmmaker said that he is happy working with the Yashraj and has no reason to see beyond. “Right now I don’t see myself directing outside the YRF banner. I can only talk about my next film ‘Fan’. I have started my career here and I don’t have any reason leave the YRF banner”, he said.

Talking about Aditya’s strategy to have some more producers, Maneesh told that the YRF chief doesn’t get much time to think about directing films. “Aditya is looking into getting some creative producers for his production house as a studio model and is keen to take a step back and focus on his directorials, for which he might not give as much time as he was giving before. He said to me, ‘If you are keen, you should go ahead and produce the film’. I did not have any ambitions to produce a movie at that point of time, but it happened suddenly”, he added.

The trends at Yashraj have mostly been about filmmakers exiting after directing two or three films for the production. Kabir Khan who helmed Kabul Express, New York and Ek Tha Tiger for the production house is now making Phantom and Bajrangi Bhaijaan for other producers. Maneesh on the other hand is making his fourth film in a row for YRF after Band Baaja Baaraat, Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl and Shuddh Desi Romance.

Aditya Chopra’s consideration of directing films surely comes as a delight to viewers who have made him immensely popular. After all, for someone who has made films like DDLJ, Mohabbatein and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, expecting to churn out movies at regular basis isn’t so unfair.
