In 2015, Pahlaj Nihalani became the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). He brought in some new rules and regulations which caused problems for filmmakers. The latest film to come under the scanner is Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma’s ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’. Nihalani asked for one lakh votes to pass the word 'intercourse' in the film. Recently, Akshaye Khanna spoke about censorship and said that it is an outdated concept.
Akshaye stated that this generation has everything available online and they can access whatever they want and nobody can stop them. Calling it an outdated concept, the actor added, “I agree 1,000 percent. It is completely unacceptable to a majority of the society today”. He went on to say, “You can’t necessarily say that certain content can’t be part of an audio-visual or a film or TV. It could be any content and if everyone else in the world can watch it, so can we”.
Talking about his brother Rahul Khanna’s nude scene in the Hollywood TV show ‘The Americans’, Akshaye said that if the scene is integral to the movie and if the director is trustworthy, he wouldn’t have a problem with doing a nude scene. He added that sometimes you need to take risks and do something that you are physically, mentally or even socially uncomfortable with.
