Tanu Weds Manu Returns has become the first film of the year to collect Rs. 100 crore in domestic box office. Subsequently, Anand L. Rai is up for massive acclaim once again. While the director is being credited for making out of the box romantic movies, Rai, on the other hand, thinks that cinema won’t change because of him.

The director told HT city, in an interview, “I don’t want to be credited for trying something new or challenging in my films. I wanted to reach the hearts of the people and bring a smile to their faces. Cinema is not going to change because of me”.

He further added, “People thought it is a cliché. But what is a cliché? Something that has been accepted is a cliché. I wanted the institution of marriage to win. I wanted to create a triangle without a triangle”. The director is neither too fond of the awards. He said, “The response we are getting (from viewers) means much more than any award. If I get an award, I’m fine with it, if not, that’s okay too”.
