Anurag Kashyap loses court battle, but still excited over Ugly’s release

After fighting a lone battle for over a year, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap finally gave up to the redundant convention he’s been against to give way to the release of his film Ugly. The film which has been held into accounts of controversy for a long time now, will hit the screens on December 26th.

Film’s director Anurag Kashyap had been fighting against the smoking warning budding on the screen between a crucial scene putting into words as, “It just kills the feeling, the message and emotion of the scene, having such a warning while you’re trying to convey a particular thought.” The producers who decided not to go ahead with the release until they win the case have now given up after the losing the battle and will release their film on December 26th. The film however has premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and 2014 New York Indian Film Festival to a phenomenon response and will officially release on 26th.

Anurag who is now excited on the release of the film stated that Ugly is his most accomplished film to date. “I’m very happy that the film is releasing though we have lost the case. I personally believe that it is my most accomplished film to date as a filmmaker so we fought and lost over a year for it. You cannot be selfish about your own reasons. We’ll continue fighting the battle but releasing Ugly is important. You have to know there are producers who’ve invested money, actors who are making a debut so you can’t really hold everybody on ransom.”

Interestingly, Anurag who was earlier expected to release his film Bombay Velvet this December but shifted it to May to avoid a clash with PK, will now anyway have a release in the looks of Ugly. The film will release post one week the opening of PK. Let’s wish the team some good luck and hope they get some returns for the efforts they put in for so long.
