Anurag Kashyap’s Udta Punjab Copied?

    Anurag Kashyap’s Udta Punjab Copied?

It has been three months that Udta Punjab released and now a report has accused the makers of the flick of plagiarism. Shocked? But yes, the movie is facing plagiarism charges and the producer Anurag Kashyap is shocked too.

According to a media report, the plot of the Shahid Kapoor starrer is copied from a 2002 novel by Ben Elton, High Society. Adding fuel to the fire, another article in a news website specified the salient similarities that the movie and the novel share including certain characters, situations, plot points and devices used.

Talking about breaching the copyright act to The Hindu, Kashyap said, “I don’t have anything to say. I am completely shocked by the same, haven’t read the book”. Denying any chance of plagiarism, he added, “I know for a fact that my director and writer went and spent a lot of time in Punjab researching the film, and have seen the research. If they were in any way inspired by the book, which only they know, they have done a damn good job in the writing of the script. Because the film that I read and I saw, seemed very very rooted in the land”.

We wish the truth is out soon and the movie emerges as a winner.
