Baahubali 2 First Day BO: The Numbers Are RECORD SMASHING!

SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which released worldwide in 9000 screens on Friday, is rewriting box office records and how. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Saturday saying that the film that opened with a monstrous start and that too, on a ‘non-holiday’. Released amid high anticipation and with the answer to the burning question that had haunted the nation for two years -- why Kattappa killed Baahubali -- the second part in the franchise has pleased critics and audiences alike. According to reliable trade pundits, the film -- which released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam -- has minted over Rs 100 crore from its first day itself in the country.

The film’s Hindi and Telugu versions earned lion’s share of total earnings with combined gross of over Rs 80 crore. The Karan Johar-released Hindi dubbed version of the film reportedly collected around Rs 40 crore from early estimates where the Telugu version raked in around Rs 45 crore. Released in nearly 650 screens in Tamil Nadu, the movie collected Rs 13 crore on the first day, as opposed to original prediction of over Rs 15 crore. “Due to the cancellation of early morning shows across Tamil Nadu, the film lost out on Rs 2-3 crore,” a source said. In Kerala, released in over 300 screens via Global United Media, the film reportedly collected over Rs 5 crore.

Box-office records have become synonymous with Baahubali 2, as the film smashed Hollywood biggies with estimated earnings of whopping $2.5 million (Rs 160,688,750) from Thursday premieres alone in the US. Interestingly, Baahubali 2 released in just 1/10th as many as theatres as this week other major English releases.
