Badrinath Ki Dulhania singer Akhil Sachdeva: I believed my songs deserve bigger...

Singer-composer Akhil Sachdeva embarked on his musical journey as the lead vocalist of the Delhi-based music band, Nasha, some seven years ago. And now, he’s all set to make his Bollywood debut with the song, Humsafar, which is picturised on actors Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt.

He wrote the song three years back, yet it took him a long time to get the right launch-pad in Bollywood. Akhil says, “Neither did I wait for anything nor did I do things deliberately. I’m a singer and a performer but I also write and compose with my guitar. I write when I feel like writing, so when I penned this song, I never thought that I have to get this out at this point. But I believed that my songs deserve bigger places and the right ones. I can’t just release a single on my own and let the song fizzle out without reaching where it is supposed to reach.”

Akhil met filmmaker, Shashank Khaitan two years back and it was the latter’s promise, which paved the way for his first big break in Bollywood. “When he (Shashank) heard the song for the first time, he was in the middle of writing the script for his next movie (Varun-Alia starrer) and he promised me that he’ll include my song in the playlist for sure. So, nothing was planned as such,” he explains.

Ask him if he made any changes in music or lyrics for the Bollywood version of the song, Akhil says, “Not even a single word was changed. It just fitted as beautifully as it could. Other than one extra line that I added later, everything else was kept intact.”

He is hoping to get many more offers and has five more soulful songs ready. “They are equally good and simple at the same time. So I don’t know when and how they will turn out. But now that the doors have opened a bit for me in a very good way, it would be much easier for me to pitch it to the right people and then deliver it. I have a feeling and I promise it to myself that I will deliver three of my big songs this year,” he says.

The 29-year-old singer is also planning to release the reprised version of his debut song. “It would be my take of the song and I will soon start shooting for the video. It’s the same song but I have to make it new. It has to sound different yet similar,” he says.
