Box Office: Ek Paheli Leela springs surprise, Dharam Sankat Mein goes unnoticed

Sunny Leone starrer Ek Paheli Leela sprung a surprise after it accelerated post its opening reports and culminated the first weekend at an impressive note. The film opened to relatively good first day figure and held the same momentum throughout the weekend. Film’s performance has majorly surprised a lot of filmy pundits.

While the initial reports didn’t go in the favour of the film, the word of mouth was mysteriously in its bag. About sixty percent of the audiences put a thumbs up for the film that resulted in the solid figures at the box office. The Sunny Leone starrer earned 5.30 crores on Friday, 5.20 crores on Saturday and 5.50 crores on Sunday to end its opening weekend at more than 15 crores. For such a low key movie, these kind of figures speak a lot. While to some extent, this kind of performance was expected with Sunny in the lead, a sustained weekend brought smiles on the faces of distributors.

On the other hand, Paresh Rawal starrer Dharam Sankat Mein couldn’t really make much of an impact.  The film largely had a similar verdict that spoke about a potential opportunity gone wasted. With seasoned actors like Paresh, Naseeruddin Shah and Annu Kapoor, while the expectations were much higher, the overall outcome has resulted in dismay. The distributors would have to hope for a good first week, which doesn’t seem like happening. The film in its opening weekend could only rake in about 4 crores.
