Congress demands ban on Shanghais song Bharat Mata Ki Jai

Bharat Mata Ki Jai song from Dibakar Banerjee-directed Shanghai, which is releasing this Friday, is in the middle of controversy these days because local Congress leaders have demanded a ban against the song alleging that it degrades India. Mumbai Congress vice-president Charan Singh Sapra has written a letter to Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Ambika Soni, saying that the song, which contains controversial words like Sarkari Hathiyaar, Dhandha, Chanda, Dengue, Malaria, Gobar (cowdung), hurts patriotic sentiments and is an insult to all countrymen who respect their motherland. Sapra claimed that the song could lead to disharmony, rioting and breach of peace within the country. He demanded an immediate and total ban on the song from being broadcast/telecast in any manner, deleting it from the movie and also called for an action against the concerned censor board officials who cleared the song. The movie, based on Vassilis Vassilikoss novel of the same name, stars Emraan Hashmi, Abhay Deol and Kalki Koechlin in the lead roles.
