Didn’t Have Inhibitions About Gaining Weight, Was Worried About Losing It: Bhumi Pednekar On ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’

While many actresses believe in having a perfect size zero figure, actress Bhumi Pednekar had no inhibitions of gaining weight for her debut film ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ which released in 2015. The film which saw Bhumi as overweight newly-wed Sandhya, broke all the box office records. Bhumi was lauded by all for her brilliant performance in the movie.

And now after two years, the actress will be seen in an upcoming film ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ which features her opposite Akshay Kumar. The 28-year-old is now receiving accolades from all for shedding those extra kilos that she gained for her debut film. During an interaction with a leading tabloid, Bhumi revealed that she surprised when she was not offered movies post ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ because of her weight gain.

Bhumi said, "I could be stereotyped. But, the roles that came my way after the film demanded that I get in shape. It was empowering that a society that criticises even a few extra inches had made my [overweight] character into a hero. I was worried that I wouldn’t be accepted as an actor, but here I am." Talking about her debut movie, Bhumi said, "I did the film because I was lured by the idea of being an actress. I didn’t have inhibitions about gaining weight. I was worried about losing it, though."

Helmed by Shree Narayan Singh, ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ will hit the theatres on August 11, 2017.
