Divya Dutta: Fortunate that audience has given me creative liberty

Actor Divya Dutta is a favourite of both audience and critics. She feels blessed to have good audience, who gave her the freedom to try new roles and not typecast her in her projects.

“I am fortunate that people have given me the opportunity and confidence to go all out and have fun with the characters I play, and try something new each time,” says Dutta, who has been part of films such as Stanley Ka Dabba (2011), Bhaag Milkha Bhaag(2013), Gippi (2013).

On whether she feels any kind of pressure to deliver good performances, the actor says, “No. It’s always a pleasant experience while acting because I like to surprise myself and the audience with what I do. Acting has always been about learning new things, so it doesn’t give any kind of stress.”

Dutta recently launched a book titled Me & Maa, based on her relationship with her late mother, Nalini Dutta. It was her connection with the readers (through her columns), which encouraged her to pen a book. “I always got appreciation for the columns I wrote for newspapers. Soon, I realised that these are two fields — acting and writing — that really help me to express myself,” she says.
