With a dream like opening, Singham Returns screaming its way to 100 crores

The absolutely thunderous start that Singham Returns started with, has translated into huge numbers. Having opened with a mammoth 32 crores on Friday, the film continued its winning spree on the next two days as well. The film garnered 21 crores on Saturday and added 24 crores on Sunday. The weekend for Singham Returns thus stood at around 78 crores falling just short of Kick’s weekend box office figure.

While the film has emerged as the biggest opener of the year so far, surpassing Kick by a good 6-7 crores, it’s going to be interesting to see how the film performs now. The Ajay Devgn-Kareena Kapoor starrer also enjoyed a fruitful Monday with Janmashtmi festivities adding more moolah in its kitty. The total so far stands at 92 crores with a strong possibility of it entering the 100 crore club today itself. This is by far the biggest opener for Ajay Devgn and may well be his highest grosser too. Rohit Shetty who is considered the ‘cash maker’ film director has again proved his mettle as a commercial observer. The reports of the film have been in the range of fair to good with critics giving it a mixed review.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar’s Entertainment has added another 10 crores in its second weekend and is enjoying a steady box office run. With Singham Returns performing exceptionally well at the ticket counters, one can’t help but wonder what an unexpected trade the box office is.
