Emma Watson's Beauty and the Beast roars at worldwide BO, opens to Rs 2300 crore
Emma Watson’s Beauty and the Beast broke numerous records on its way to a $357 million worldwide opening weekend, which amounts to a staggering Rs 2330 crore.
In India, the fantasy musical raked in over Rs 6 crore in its opening weekend, reports trade analyst Taran Adarsh. While this number is a fraction of the worldwide total, Adarsh notes that it is more than three times the opening weekend collections of Disney’s Moana, Zootopia and Cinderella.
In the US, the Emma Watson-starrer broke Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s record with a $174 million debut, reports Deadline. It also became the number 1 PG rated debut of all time. The film debuted at number 1 in each of its 44 markets this weekend (India and two others weren’t one of them).
Internationally, the film raked in another $180 million for a worldwide total of more than $357 million. It currently ranks number 13 on the list of biggest worldwide openings ever behind Iron Man 3 ($372 million) and ahead of the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie ($350 million).
Deadline also predicts that the film will likely cross the coveted $1 billion mark by the end of its run, and will probably find a place in the list of the top 10 films of all time at the US box office.
