Ghulam Ali Agrees To Perform In Kerela

Renowned Pakistani singer, Ghulam Ali, after denying performing in India in the wake of the threats from Shiv Sena, has reportedly agreed to perform in Kerala. As per a report published on thehindu.com, the ghazal maestro will perform in January for an organisation called Swaralaya, which promotes music and other types of art forms. Ghulam was supposed to perform in Mumbai and Pune in October but due to the threats from the political party, he refused to return to the country, saying, “atmosphere and ambience were favourable for music, and art isn’t opposed”. Ali said that he was “not angry, but very hurt” after the incident.

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member, M.A. Baby, had made the announcement about the concert on December 3, saying that Ghulam’s ghazals go beyond national as well as geographical boundaries. “The news of the cancellation of Ghulam Ali’s concerts in India, after certain groups with negative intentions imposed a ban on his performances, was saddening. Since that time, many of his fans here have been speaking about the possibility of inviting him to sing in Kerala. Swaralaya contacted him recently, and he said he will certainly be glad to sing for the people here”, he announced.

Ali will perform in two concerts; on January 15 in Thiruvananthapuram and on January 17 in Kozhikode. The venues haven’t been decided as yet. M.A. Baby also said, “We hope that those who opposed Ali a few months back have themselves realised their mistake. The responsibility of ensuring security for the events is with the State Government”.
