Golden Globe Award for George Clooney

Hollywood megastar George Clooney is sure to take home a trophy at next year's Golden Globe Awards. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced on Monday that the 53-year-old entertainer and activist will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the ceremony on January 11, 2015. The award is presented annually to an individual who's made "an incredible impact on the world of entertainment." The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which adjudicates the winners of the awards, said on Monday that Clooney was chosen in a large part for his humanitarian work, in particular for speaking out against the genocide in Darfur.

George has won three Golden Globes, for "The Descendants", "Syriana", and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" He was nominated for four other films and for his role in the popular television drama "ER". The actor, producer, writer, and director co-founded "Not On Our Watch", an organization that works to fight genocides around the world. In 2010, he also co-produced a telethon, "Hope for Haiti", which raised $66 million for earthquake relief.

Former recipients of the Cecil B. DeMille award include Jodie Foster, Steven Spielberg, Anthony Hopkins, Michael Douglas and Martin Scorsese.
