Sampat argued in her plea that she owns the women gang and no permission has been taken from her to make the film. She also said that the movie contains some defamatory content that can harm the reputation of her organisation. Ms. Pal, a former government health worker and social activist of Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, is seeking for permanent ban on Gulaab Gang.
Gulabi Gang women dress up in pink sarees and they aspire for the uplift of rural women. The plea says, “Gulabi Gang acts as a trademark, trade name and a trade dress uniquely depicting the social message that they seek to disseminate and propagate.” Gulaab Gang directed and written by Soumik Sen, was to be distributed by Sahara Movie Studios. The film to be released tomorrow was stopped, when the screening of the same was about to take place. The next hearing on this case will be on May 8.
