Hansraj College fest Confluence: Where students just had fun

The annual fest of Hansraj college — Confluence ’17, had much more than the Diljit Dosanjh (above, right)concert that had ended abruptly after a mayhem created by the crowd. The four-day event had all the makings of a hit fest — dance, drama and masti.

A moving experience

Out of the various competitions held in the college grounds, two that really got the crowd applauding were the street play and the choreography competition. The dramatisation of social issues like child sexual abuse, dowry and gender issues had everyone gripped to the show. But it was the drama of Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology, Et cetera, that won the top prize for their slick satire on demonetisation.

The choreography team of Hansraj, Terpsi Chorean, won the show for their concept around dreams. The beautiful execution had many in tears, including Thinley Bhutia. “I breathe dance and nothing moves me more than a beautifully choreographed piece. I am sorry that crying makes me look mad, but that shows how much I loved it. They were surreal,” said Bhutia smiling through his tears.

Selfie le le re

Exhibits by Pixels and Kalakriti, the photography and fine arts society of Hansraj College gave ample selfie backgrounds to the visitors. But these were no match to teh popularity of a dedicated selfie corner that attracted the super-enthu crowd. “Normal selfie to hamesha le hi lete hai, but itne colourful display ke saamne selfie lene ki baat hi kuchh aur hai. It is so pretty!(Everyone takes normal selfies, but a selfie with such a colourful display is definitely needed. It is so pretty.) I have already got a lot of hits on FB for it,” said Harshika Sukhani, a student at the fest.

Are you game!

Unlike most colleges, the game area in Hansraj was packed with students trying their hand at almost every stall. While some enjoyed a game of cards, others were seen gobbling up gol gappas as their friends cheered on. While Holi was still a few days away, nothing could stop students at the fest from indulging in their own little water war. Himanshu Yadav, a college student, came up with the idea and soon everyone was seen throwing balloons at each other. Some even threw buckets of water at each other. “Hansraj ka fest ho aur masti na ho, aisa to ho nahi sakta. Holi aaj nahi to kya hua, hum to mana hi sakte hai, humein to bass masti maarni hai. (It won’t be Hansraj’s fest without a little fun. It might not be Holi today, but we can sure get celebrations started; we just wanna have some fun,)” laughed Yadav.
