Happy birthday Kapil Sharma: The best phrases he gave us

TV star Kapil Sharma celebrates his 36th birthday on Sunday. The actor-comedian has been facing a lot of flak these days for his drunken spat with co-star Sunil Grover and others in his team. While Sunil refrained from confirming that he has quit the show, sources hint that it has happened and Raju Srivastava has replaced Grover. Kapil has had several drunken (Twitter spat with Kamaal Rashid Khan, slamming government on Twitter) “misdeeds” but the latest one is by far the ugliest one.

Keeping all the controversies aside, Kapil has been one of the most popular comedians on TV - with his first show Comedy Nights with Kapil and the current one, The Kapil Sharma Show - both registering good viewership ratings.

The 33-year-old TV star is irreverent, mostly insulting, and has roasted quite a few reputations in his first show, Comedy Nights With Kapil. He celebrated his birthday on sets of the TV show along with Ayushmann Khuranna and Parineeti Chopra, who were there to promote their upcoming film Meri Pyari Bindu.

This is his most popular punch line. Ever since Comedy Nights With Kapil gained popularity, memes on ‘Babaji ka thullu’ flooded the social media. Even stars visiting the sets for promotion of their movies have begun using the phrase!

2. Ittu sa tha

‘Ittu sa’ comes handy every time we want to make somebody realise about their size. One of the star characters on Kapil’s show is Dadi (played by Ali Asgar). The now famous dadi often shows off her overbearing ‘senior-citizen’ status on Bittu (Kapil) and his guests by insisting that she knew about them when they were ‘ittu sa’.

3. Shagun ki pappi

Some stars love it and find it cute but most would run away from it, however they don’t have a choice. Every celebrity who visits Comedy Nights with Kapil gets a forced kiss from Dadi. The kiss goes by the name ‘shagun ki pappi’ (kiss of good luck)!

4. Kaun hai yeh aadmi

Bittu’s bua (played by Upasana Singh) is known for her false sense of self-appreciation. She hits on every man who visits Bittu’s house. As soon as the guest refuses to fall for her, she turns to Kapil and asks, ‘Bittu! Kaun hai ye aadmi? Mujhe isse baat nai karni.’ (Who is this man? I don’t want to talk to him.)
