Happy New Year collects 15 crores on Monday, maintains momentum

After a dreamlike opening weekend that broke all box office records, Shahrukh Khan’s Happy New Year collected around 15 crore on its first Monday. The film has a total collection standing at around 124 crores, which is quite credible. However at the same stage last year, Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 had crossed the 125 crore mark in 4 days.

While the opening for Happy New Year has undoubtedly been humungous, the follow ups are slightly looking to drop down. The film in comparison to Dhoom 3 doesn’t look too staunch to beat in the final run. The overseas report is huge but way below Shahrukh’s previous, Chennai Express. While Chennai Express had garnered approx 36 crores in its overseas opening weekend, Happy New Year could only rake in around 29. The proceedings are in making of a blockbuster for sure but the current trend and flow suggests that Happy New Year will ultimately have to settle with something ‘non record like’.
