Hugh Jackman's Logan stuns at global box office, has a Rs 1500 crore opening
Logan, Hugh Jackman’s final film as Wolverine, exceeded even the most optimistic box office predictions when it brought in an estimated $237 million (over Rs 1500 crore) in the opening weekend.
In India, the film made Rs 10.5 crore in two days, beating the sole Bollywood release Commando 2, which made Rs 9.5 crore.
According to Box Office Mojo, its $85 million opening in the US is the fifth largest for an R-rated film ever. Deadpool, the film that paved the way for more violent and profane superhero film is still at number one.
In terms of its standing in the X-Men series, Logan’s debut was greater than the previous Wolverine films, X-Men Orgins: Wolverine (2009) and The Wolverine (2013).
It’s biggest international markets were China ($46 million), the UK ($11 million) and South Korea ($8 million).
To add to the success, the film has been receiving excellent reviews. It sits at a healthy 93% on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
