Huma Qureshi on working with Rajinikanth: It would be an honour

News of actor Huma Qureshi bagging a film alongside actor Rajinikanth has been doing the rounds for a couple of days. According to reports, Huma has been roped in to play Rajinikanth’s love interest in a film. When we asked her about it, the 30-year-old didn’t confirm the reports, but said she would love to work with him.

“I think the makers should comment on that. I am not in a position to say anything...It would be an honour to work with Rajini Sir, it really would be. But that is all that I can say at this point,” says Huma.

The film is yet to be titled and will be produced by actor Dhanush under his banner Wunderbar Films. It will be directed by PA Ranjith and the shoot will start by the end of the month. “The makers were keen on casting Huma in the romantic lead opposite megastar Rajinikanth as she fits the requirements of the role,” a statement read.

Although an official announcement is awaited, sources close to the project have confirmed the news. “Yes, Huma has been signed for this film. She will start shooting for this film from May 28,” a source was quoted as saying. The shoot will take place in Mumbai and a grand set has also been built for the gangster drama.

There were reports that actor Vidya Balan was being considered for the role. Earlier, Bollywood actors such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Radhika Apte and Deepika Padukone have worked alongside Rajinikanth.

Huma, who has starred in film such as Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana (2012) and D-Day (2013), says script is a major parameter for her while taking on new work. “I just read the script, everything else just follows.Content is the most important thing for me. One should focus on that,” says Huma.

The actor will also be seen alongside her brother, actor Saqib Saleem in the film Dobaara: See Your Evil Films. Huma says they shared a great rapport on the sets of the film. “He will always be my brother and I will always be an annoying sister. He is a sensitive co-actor. Whoever he works with, he becomes their friend. We are siblings, so we know each other’s reactions to things. It was quite easy to gel with him. We didn’t have to work on our chemistry,” says Huma.
