Anil Kapoor Reveals Why He Did Slumdog Millionaire Despite Not Knowing Who Danny Boyle Was!

Actor Anil Kapoor was completely unaware of international filmmaker Danny Boyle’s name at the time when he was offered Boyle’s directorial venture Slumdog Millionaire (2008). The 60-year-old says that it was his son Harshvardhan Kapoor’s reaction that convinced him to take on that project.

“My son told me that who he (Boyle) was... I told him that this script has come to me and some Danny Boyle wanted to cast me and he was like dad that’s Danny Boyle!...Before I could read the script, he read it,” the actor said recently at the British Film Institute, where he was a special guest.

Talking about his first meeting with Boyle, Kapoor recalled, “When I met him, I told him my son wants an autograph. He asked me ,‘Are you doing the film?’ and I said, ‘Of course I am.’ Then he said , ‘Have you read the script?’ I said, ‘No. My son wants me to do the film, so I am doing it’.”

All praise for the award-winning director, Kapoor adds that he is glad that he got to work with him in such a wonderful film. “He is a genius. He knew that I am the right person for the role and he cast me without any hesitation. I went with my instinct and he went with his. It was a pleasure to know him as a technician. He is not only a great director, but also a phenomenal human being.”
