If Radhika Apte can do Bengali films, why can’t I do Marathi films: Bidita

Bengali actor Bidita Bag is outspoken and doesn’t mince words while talking about anything under the sun. From casting for short films at the Film and Television Institute of India to becoming a ghost director on sets, this fiery actor is all gung-ho about her big ticket commercial entry into Bollywood. “I am working on three Hindi projects, Rabbi, Dayabai - a biopic, and an untitled film where I play a Marathi girl,” says Bidita, who visits FTII in Pune often.

“I am here at least twice a year. I have a lot of friends at FTII, who have taught me the nuances of film-making. I eventually will look at directing too. For now, I just want to work on commercial films and earn money. Once I am financial secure I will look at exploring my passion of direction,” says the actor, who was caught off guard when she experienced the culture in FTII.

The actor understands Marathi and is keen on doing more regional films. “If Radhika Apte can do Bengali films, then why can’t I do a Marathi film. I have watched Marathi films and loved Sairat (2016), Timepass (2014) and Natarang (2009). I want to do films of this kind,” she says.

Good scripts are very important for Bidita and then she looks at who is directing it. “I am also finicky about the DOP of a film. It is him/her who envisions the film, hence you have to have a good DOP. I do my homework on these fronts before signing a film,” says Bidita.
