Is Brad Pitt joining Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2?

In what could be a major casting coup for Ryan Reynolds and Co, a new report suggests that Brad Pitt could be in the running to play Cable in the upcoming Deadpool 2.

Movie website Collider.com says, “Sources tell us that in casting Cable, Brad Pitt was eyed to take on the role and there was interest on both sides.”

The first Deadpool movie was one of the biggest surprises of the year. It made more than $750 million worldwide and propelled the sequel into production. In October 2016, director Tim Miller departed the project due to creative differences and was replaced by John Wick co-director David Leitch.

Cable is a character most famous for being associated with the X-Men in Marvel comics. Previously, Ron Perlman had publicly expressed interest in playing the character on screen. Stranger Things star David Harbour auditioned for the part, and this week, it was reported that Oscar-nominee Michael Shannon was in the running as well.

But this is the first we’ve heard of Pitt being interested in playing Cable. The actor recently starred in the World War II spy thriller Allied and is gearing up to both produce and star in a sequel to World War Z.

Deadpool 2 is tentatively slated for a March 2018 release.
