'I've Made Conscious Decision Very Long Ago That I Would Not Be My Dad's Shadow', Says Sonam Kapoor

Actress Sonam Kapoor has always been acclaimed for being one of the most stylist celebrities in Bollywood. Well, it’s not only her fashion sense that has made her enjoy the limelight. The actress is also known for her big mouth as she has always spoken her mind out publicly. Recently, the actress told a popular daily that her opinions do hold significance.

“I've always had an opinion”, Sonam stated, adding, “And why should anyone expect any less of me? Just because I look and dress a certain way? It was to believe these ridiculous notions that I thought it was necessary to do Neerja and Raanjhanaa to have an opportunity to speak my mind on things that matter and to be taken seriously as an actor. There shouldn't be a mould for all women to fit in, in order to be seen as worthy of respect and intellect”.

Sonam went on to add that she never was her dad's shadow and never will be. “I am stubborn and headstrong and I've made a conscious decision very long ago that I would not be my dad's shadow. Not much grows under a banyan tree. If you are lucky enough like me to have a parent who can give you the time and space to grow, who doesn't mollycoddle you and who can respect your ability to make your own decisions, you will have all you ever need to strive for what you want most”, she added.

On the work front, Sonam will next be seen in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic playing one of the leading ladies. She also has Akshay Kumar’s Padman in her kitty. In addition, the actress will be seen alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania in Venere Di Wedding.
