Jab Harry Met Sejal box office: Shah Rukh-Anushka film opens well

Jab Harry Met Sejal box office: Shah Rukh-Anushka film opens well

Shah Rukh Khan’s second release of 2017, Jab Harry Met Sejal, released on Friday and the film has disappointed trade pundits at the ticket windows. While the film was expected to make an opening of Rs 18-20 crore, early estimates suggest it has hardly crossed Rs 16 crore.

According to Boxofficeindia, Jab Harry Met Sejal has collected Rs 15.5 crore on day one. Koimoi, on the other hand, reported an opening collection of Rs 18 crore.

The final figures are yet to arrive, but the estimates suggest that Jab Harry Met Sejal may prove to be one of the lowest openers of SRK in recent times.

The Imtiaz Ali film which has Anushka Sharma as the leading lady reported over 40% occupancy in most urban centres during the morning shows. However, with most of the reviews of Jab Harry Met Sejal being critical, they may spoil the party for the film in the coming days. It released across 3200 screens in India.

Jab Harry Met Sejal had a 40-45% occupancy in the morning shows as per early reports. On multiplexes, the film saw a 25% occupancy rate.

The Imtiaz Ali film has already earned Rs 25 crore from satellite and distribution rights. Made at an estimated budget of Rs 90 crore, Jab Harry Met Sejal needs to cross the Rs 150-crore mark at the box office to be declared a hit.

Both Shah Rukh and Imtiaz need the film to work at the box office as they have not tasted success for some time now. While SRK’s last release, Raees, collected over Rs 133 crore, it was not as big a success as trade expected. Anushka, on the other hand, is on a winning spree with her previous films Sultan and Phillauri proving to be profitable for the makers.

The opening numbers for previous SRK films stand at Rs 19.20 crores (Fan, 2016), Rs 21 crore (Dilwale, 2015) and Rs 44.97 crore (Happy New Year, 2014). Will Jab Harry Met Sejal manage to beat these? We will bring you updates soon.
