Jasleen Kaur Royal prefers negative criticism over positive feedback

Singer Jasleen Kaur Royal might have become a popular name in the industry but being the centre of attention is something that she just cannot handle. An introvert from her school days, Jasleen says, “In school, when I used to return to the classroom after a break, and had to ask my teacher for permission to enter, I could feel the entire class looking at me for that brief moment, I used to get shivers. I have no clue how this transformation happened,” says Jasleen.

For the Ludhiana born singer, fame is another thing that she is slowly coming to terms with and admits that she is more wary of positive feedback. “I actually get more worried when positive criticism comes my way. I don’t know how to handle it. One day, someone was praising my song, and I didn’t know how to respond to that,” adds Jasleen.

The singer adds that negative criticism is better and rather easier to handle. “It keeps you on your toes. If you are getting comfortable, it helps you get out of it and try to do something different. But I don’t invite negative criticism always. If I am not in a good mood, I just tell people to shut up,” she laughs.

Her song, Love You Zindagi picturised on Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan from Gauri Shinde’s film dear Zindagi (2016) had become one of the highlights of her singing career. “When the song released, I never knew it would become so popular. My mom called me and told me that it’s being played everywhere. To be honest, I just wanted to work with Amit Trivedi. When he called me, I thought he wanted to work on a jingle, but it turned to be a movie song. I am just happy that I got a chance to work with him. The song getting popular is just the icing on the cake,” shares Jasleen.
