It has been three months since the release of Kai Po Che and it has also recorded huge success at the box-office. Now a legal practitioner, advocate Bhautik Bhatt has filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Gujarat High Court against the depiction of the Gujarat communal riots in the movie, which according to him has insulted the Hindu community.

The petition has also sought for a cancellation of the clearance of the film by the Censor Board. The PIL will be heard by a division bench of Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J. B. Pardiwala on June 20. According to Bhatt, riots in the film have been presented “with biased intention and half-heartedly only with a view to defaming a particular group of people belonging to Hindu community". He has also demanded that the scenes need to be deleted or edited, at least.

He has also asked for "criminal action" need to be taken against the producers of the film "for defaming the group of Hindus at large". The petition has also said that if it gets an approval from the court, producers should not be able to sell the TV rights of the film nor release its DVD/CD in the future. The petitioner has also assured that an official DVD of the film will be provided to the judges before taking any final nod on the plea. The critically-acclaimed film was adapted from Chetan Bhagat’s fictionThe 3 Mistakes of My Life.
