The project that Kangana Ranaut had signed with director Hansal Mehta has finally come to folds. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the project will be a biopic on Sarabjit Singh, an Indian national who was killed in a Pakistani jail following a mistaken identity and a series of unsporting political decisions making him stay there for over 20 years.

Sarabjit Singh (a farmer from Punjab) who unknowingly entered the Pakistani border and later got arrested was sentenced to death by the Pakistan Supreme court. Having spent 22 years of his life in prison, he was later attacked and killed in the jail itself. Sarabjit’s story is one heart piercing narrative that Hansal Mehta has adopted to portray on screen.

The reason Kangana’s part comes as the most crucial one is for the fact that she plays Sarabjit’s sister who gave all her life to free her brother from the prison and didn’t give up on any stage. Even after the death of Sarabjit, she vocally raised concerns and foul play in picture. Having done so many in depth characters in her career, this one can certainly come in as the most challenging one for the actress.

Talking about the role and offer made to her, Kangana told the daily, "The role spans 16-46 years and is a challenge in itself. I myself share a really close bond with my siblings. Rangoli is around four years older than me but there's just a gap of a year-and-a-half between me and my younger brother who is a pilot. We've grown up eating from each other's plates so I can completely empathise with the relationship Dalbir and Sarabjit shared."
