THROWBACK: When Karan Johar Felt 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' Wasn’t Directed Well

Back in 2016, at a press conference of Jio Filmfare awards, Karan Johar divulged that he felt that his first directorial flick ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' wasn’t as well directed as ‘Satya’. Both the movies contested at the Filmfare award, where Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Satya’ lost, and Karan’s romantic entertainer grabbed the award.

Speaking at the press conference, Karan revealed, “For my first film I was contending (for Filmfare award) with a very strong film called 'Satya'. I felt it was a very well directed film than mine. I had thought maybe Ram Gopal Varma would walk away with the award and he got an award.” He further added, “I thought even I would get an award and I was sitting in the third row, mumbling my speech. It was a big deal for me to win my first Filmfare. I remember the emotions attached to it, what I was going through when Madhuri Dixit handed me the award. I get goosebumps.”

'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' was Karan’s first directorial flick and it won 8 awards at the Filmfare. Moreover, the film won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' featured Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Kajol in the main roles, while Salman Khan did a cameo in the blockbuster flick.
