Television actor Karishma Tanna might have shot to fame with the popular daily soap Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, but she made a lasting impact on the audience’s mind with the numerous reality shows that she’s been part of. From Comedy Circus, Bigg Boss and Khatron Ke Khiladi to Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Karishma has pulled off roles in a variety of genres. Ask her what’s next on the reality show scene, and she says, “I’d love to host a reality show now, and not be a contestant in it. I want to take a show forward.”

So does that mean she won’t take up daily soaps anymore? Karishma doesn’t rule out the possibility, saying, “It has to be really interesting for me to perform the same role for 365 days non-stop.” She further adds, “It becomes taxing for an actor to perform the same character for 12 hours every day and then after a point, there’s no growth.”

Even with films, you work for three to six months and then you’re out of the character. But for a daily soap, you don’t have that luxury.

The 33-year-old actor, who has bagged a cameo in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic starring Ranbir Kapoor feels that a show not only needs to be interesting but should be convincing enough to make her a part of it. “In films, you work for three to six months and you’re out of the character. But for a daily soap, you don’t have that luxury. So the character has to be convincing. Otherwise, your mind is not in it and you’re just working for money, which is a good amount in serials. But I want both, good acting and good money.”

Crediting her stardom to television, Karishma says that she is not averse to doing daily soaps. “TV has made me what I’m today. It has given me recognition and a household name status. But now I want something good. A great story and character, which is acting driven and not where I’m just there,” says Karishma, who is reading scripts and waiting for something apt to come her way. “Historic concepts are working with the audience now. I don’t mind something of that sort, but it has to be challenging. Something like a Rani Lakshmi Bai what Deepika [Padukone] did in Bajirao Mastani,” shares the actor.
