nurag Kashyap has revealed that his latest film Bombay Velvet has been inspired by a girl he met in New York a few years ago. The audience will find an unknown name in the opening credits of the movie. That name is of Samita Sinha, which will appear along with Lorna Corderio.

Corderio is a famous Konkani singer. Anurag met Samita in New York in the summer of 2006. Samita Sinha is a jazz singer who was performing at the Lincoln Center, when she caught the filmmaker’s eye. "It was a meeting between two people during a moment of weakness...one that changed their lives forever", Anurag told Mumbai Mirror. "I was completely smitten by her. It was an infatuation hard to explain. But there could never be anything more", he added.

When asked if Samita’s music has influenced the film, the director said, "It's inspired the film. I wanted music that could sound like hers and found Amit Trivedi to create it. I have a deep love for Samita that will remain forever. Some people you value and cherish all your life. She's one such incredible woman".
