Know Why Rangoon Ran Into Trouble With CBFC

The trailer of Saif Ali Khan–Shahid Kapoor-Kangana Ranaut starrer Rangoon released on January 5 and became an instant hit. The trailer is indeed impressive and the trio is looking just fabulous. However, there are certain scenes in the film that didn’t go down well with the Censor Board.

If reports are to be believed, the Central Board of Film Certification has asked the makers of the film to either delete the scenes with the characters indulging in smoking and other kinds of intoxication or to add statutory warning on these scenes. In the words of Censor chief, Pahlaj Nihalani, “We’ve asked all such scenes to be deleted. Drug abuse and smoking are not things we encourage in our films. Smoking may have been fashionable in the past. But now, it is as unacceptable as eve-teasing and stalking. To see glamorous characters getting high on drugs is not CBFC’s idea of an evening of fun at the movies”.

He also said that these things were known to be fashionable in the earlier times. However, smoking and other kinds of intoxication is now considered a sin. The Vishal Bharadwaj film is slated for a release on February 24. Let’s see what the makers do to get the certification.
