    Konkona Sen Sharma wins best actor, director award at New York Indian Film Festival

    Actor Konkona Sen Sharma made her directorial debut last year with the film, A Death in the Gunj, and the film was recently invited to be showcased at the New York Indian film festival. Not only was the film appreciated at the festival, but Konkona also won the title of the Best Director at the festival. Besides, Konkona was honoured with the Best Actress award for her film Lipstick Under My Burkha, directed by Alankrita Srivastava, at the festival. The film was refused certification by the Censor Board in India.

    Congratulating Konkona, producer Ashish Bhatnagar says the actor is sure to win many more awards in the future. “We are all extremely happy for Konkona’s big win. She is one of the most talented people we have in this industry and we are sure that many such prestigious laurels are coming her way. We hope that she gets many more of these honours through her fantastic work!” says Ashish.

    In an earlier interview to us, Konkona’s mother filmmaker-actor Aparna Sen had spoke about how she was impressed with the way Konkona directed her debut film. “She would often consult me while she was making the film, but I never told her what to do. She would take all the decisions. It was so great to see that she had the entire film chalked out. She was so clear about what she wanted in her film and how she wanted it. I was so impressed with her,” she told us.

    The movie is yet to release in India. Last month, there as news that the movie will release in May, after a delay of a month. The film stars actors Tillotama Shome, Gulshan Devaiah, Om Puri, Kalki Koechlin, Naseeruddin Shah, Tisca Chopra, Neeraj Kabi, Suraj Sharma and Sayani Gupta.
