    Let’s remember the legend Dev Anand on his 90th birth anniversary today

    The evergreen hero of Bollywood, Dev Anand, was born on this day in the year of 1923 and if he were alive he would turn 90 today. He entertained his audiences for more than six decades and redefined the world of cinema through his exclusive style. Let’s remember his memorable career on his birthday today.

    Dev bagged his first lead role in the 1946-film Hum Ek Hain opposite Kamala Kotnis. Then his 1947-film Ziddi came as the huge break for him in the Hindi film industry. In 1951, Anand’s bosom buddy Guru Dutt came up with his directorial debut, Baazi, which was highly successful and the actor shot to fame with this film. Baazi, which also starred Yogita Bali and Kalpana Kartik in the lead, was produced by Anand’s production house Navketan films. Then in 1954 he received his maiden Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actor for Munimji. In the 1956-film Paying Guest he was paired with Nutan for the first time and later their onscreen chemistry became very popular among his fans.

    With the 1958-film Kala Pani he bagged his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor and in the 1963-film Tere Ghar ke Samne he co-starred Nutan for the last time. His 1965-film Guide, based on R.K.Narayan's Sahitya Akademi winning novel The Guide, helped him win the Filmfare Best Actor Award for the second time. He made his directorial debut with the 1970-film Prem Pujari. His other popular films include CID, Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai, Kala Bazar, Kalapani, Nau Do Gyarah, Jewel Thief, Hum Dono, Taxi Driver, Tere Mere Sapne, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, to name a few. He received Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991, Padma Bhusan in 2001 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002. One of the greatest and most influential actors of Indian cinema, Dev Anand, breathed his last on December 3, 2011.
