Director Alankrita Shrivastava’s ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ was in the midst of controversy after it was announced with Central Board of Film Certification calling it ‘lady oriented’. The movie was even refused a film certificate. However, after fighting a long battle with the censor board, the film breathed a sigh of relief after the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal ordered the censor board to issue a certificate.

And now the movie will release all over India on July 21, 2017 with an A certificate. Though the film may have not gone down well with India’s censor board, but, it is well received by foreign audience for portraying women freedom. Earlier, the film’s leading lady Konkona Sen Sharma won the best actor’s award at the New York Indian Film Festival.

And now the movie has been selected to be the opening film at the 2017 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). The festival will go on from August 10-22. Alankrita cannot hold her excitement for the same. “It is a great honour that ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ will be opening the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. While the film has travelled to many parts of the world, it will be screened in Australia for the first time. I am really looking forward to the reaction of the Australian audience,” Shrivastava said in a statement.

‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ revolves around the story of four women who are in search of freedom. Apart from Konkona, it also features Ratna Pathak, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur.
