Lisa Ray to renew her ties with India

Indo-Canadian model and actress Lisa Ray is all set to settle down in Mumbai. The actress who started her acting career with the Tamil film Nethaji alongside Sarath Kumar, also appeared in the Oscar-nominated film Water. Apart from being model, actor and social activist, Lisa is also a writer now and her book on her life is almost complete.

Talking about her love for Mumbai and desire to settle down in the city, Lisa says, “I’m shifting base back to Mumbai (from Canada). I’ve always been a nomad. This is a new chapter in my life; I am renewing my ties with India, something which I’ve always wanted to do.”

In 2009, the actress was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells. In April 2010, Ray announced that she was cancer-free and thanked her illness for giving her a new perspective on life. She said, “I have never had a ‘normal’ life, but I can share that my life is different now it’s better! I don’t get caught up in the hustle of life, simplicity is important to me. I have a much better sense of humour and I certainly don’t sweat over the small stuff. And I also found my soulmate post cancer. You can actually thrive after dealing with a huge health issue if you listen and learn from the experience.”

Lisa also wants to re-enter Bollywood. On this she says,“The sort of work coming out of India inspires me. The kind of roles that I’m offered today wasn’t really happening in the 90s.”

But to her, every role she portrays is an experience. “I’m more of a collector of experiences. The end product you see is just the tip of the ice-berg; there’s so much of work that goes into it,” she says.
