The unfortunate Uri attacks led to a state of unrest in the country and Pakistan too suffered due to this. It majorly affected the movie business of both the countries. While Indian movie community decided to ban Pakistani artistes from working in Indian movies, the neighbouring country too imposed a ban on screening Indian films. Reportedly, Pakistan faced a loss of over Rs 150 million in the last four months. However, after months of suspension, Pakistan has now lifted the ban on the Indian movies.

Kaabil was the first Indian film to release in Pakistan after the ban was lifted. And now the latest in the front is that filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has decided to sign Pakistani artist in his play. The play is on cross border peace and is an initiative to revive the cultural ties that were completely eroded after the extreme positions, decisions taken by both countries post the Uri attack.

Talking about signing a Pakistani artist, he said, “The Indian government never outlawed Pakistani nationals, so there is no official ban on them. After the Uri attack, the relationship between the two countries took an extreme turn. As storytellers, we should bring people together and create empathy, and that is what we are trying to do with this play. Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, who recently won an Oscar, said a very important and brave thing -`Dividing the world into the `us’ and `our enemies’ creates fear, a deceitful justification for aggression and war’”.

Well, let’s see how other people react to Bhatt’s decision.
