Meghna Gulzar speaks up for father Gulzar

The rumours of Gulzar and Vishal Bhardwaj’s recent Pakistan trip was shortened due to Indo-Pak tense relations cause of Afzal Guru’s hanging, finally finds Meghna Gulzar clarifying the speculation. She stated that a peculiar chest pain led Gulzar, 83, to return to India post paying a visit to his birthplace. The poet-lyricist-filmmaker opted to give the Karachi Lit Fest a miss for the same reason though the duo was in Pakistan for a recording schedule for the movieDedh Ishqiya.

Meghna was stunned by the allegations doing rounds and a source quoted her saying, “He is doing well. The uneasiness that he felt in his chest was because of a sudden surge of strong emotions. There is nothing to worry about now and his health is just fine. But he is still to recover emotionally.” She further added, “It was unfortunate how the issue was politicised. If anybody there (in Karachi) had bothered to check, they would have known. He was feeling unwell and hence decided to come back home. Something as insignificant was blown into a political controversy between Indian and Pakistan. My dad had no issues with his security in Pakistan.”

The poet is a little tormented with the allegations doing rounds and chose to keep a low profile and give himself rest. Meghna Gulzar too pleaded to the nation to let his father breathe in peace so as to recuperate in good time.
