The debut edition of Namami Brahmaputra, which is being touted as the largest river festival of India, is scheduled to be held from March 31 to April 4.

Assamese musician Papon has composed an anthem for Namami Brahmaputra and several celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Arijit Singh, and music composers Vishal-Shekhar have lent their voices for the song.

TV stars hailing from Assam were all excited about the fest, but told HT that they will give it a miss, as they have commitments.

But the longing for home will ensure they are glued to the event through TV and social media wherever they are.

    Devoleena Bhattacharjee
I am really going to miss the festival as I’m shooting in Bombay. I tried my best to visit the festival with my friends here and thought of introducing them to Assam’s culture. The fest was the best option as there will be traditional Assamese sports, music and dance forms on display. Also with Assam Tea festival, local cuisine, and film festival screening the best of Assamese films, along with river cruises, rafting, visits to the sprawling tea gardens and their English bungalows with golf courses would have enchanted them. At least my family will attend the fest. I am happy about my Assam getting developed.

I am really excited about the festival. All my friends and family in Assam will be attending it. But because of some work commitment here in Mumbai, I’m missing it. But I’ll keep myself updated about the same with pictures and videos. I have loved the song sung by Papon and other stars.

The five-day programme will have a host of activities to showcase Assam’s art, heritage and culture. Already the theme song of the programme is released and I am loving it. I am trying my best to visit the festival and have got the invitation too for that. But I also have some work commitment. I’m shooting in Himachal right now.

I would have loved to attend it, but I am shooting in Mumbai with Zubeen for our upcoming Assamese movie, so I won’t be able to make it. Zubeen is also performing there, but I have some scenes after he leaves for Assam, so I’ll miss the festival.
