Born in 1939 on this very day, Rahul Dev Burman gave Indian music a new style, a solid strength and thousands of gems to last forever. His style of experimenting was very unique, he would blow beer bottles, use cup/plates to produce the sound he wanted. Popularly known as Pancham, R.D. Burman died in 1994 at the age of 54 with a heart attack. He was married to singer Asha Bhoasle and Rita Patel before that. Born to a father like S.D. Burman who was a master in himself, Pancham Da redefined the style of music here in India. He gave music for over 330 movies. He was influenced by western and Latin music and made a proper fusion to introduce them in Indian cinema. The electric style of melodies was something India had not been introduced to. His journey with actor Rajesh Khanna was lovely and together they kept giving hits after hits. His most memorable works include, Parichay, Aandhi, Kati Patang, Yaadon ki Baaraat, Masoom, 1942: A Love Story. Honestly the list would seem endless if anyone was to examine his work. He received three filmfare awards and several accolades throughout his career. As Pancham Da turns 75, we remember him by listening to some of his evergreen compositions.
