The Gangs of Wasseypur star backs his brother’s directional debut, which is going to be a short film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival. The 40-year-old actor, who rose to fame with Gangs of Wasseypur, will now try his hand at production. His project Miyaan Kal Aana will be screened at the festival in the Short Film Corner category.

The film focuses on the Halala law in Islam and treatment of women. "This law is strictly enforced in my village and it bothered me a lot. I felt that the best way, to address the issue is through a film. The fact that it’s made to the Cannes festival is the icing on the cake," Shamas Siddiqui told Mumbai Mirror.

When quizzed about why Nawazuddin Siddiqui was cast in the short film, Shamas said, No, he's produced it and that's enough. I haven't dabbled in direction before and I'm grateful to Nawaz for supporting me, most of my cast are non-actors and the film was an enriching experience for them". The director also went on to say that Miyaan Kal Aana is just the beginning.
