Not Padmaavat, Ban Rape And Female Foeticide: Renuka Shahane Comes Out In Spirited Defence!

Renuka Shahane is not one to mince words. The actor is known for her forthright views on the important topics of the day and this time she has a take on Padmaavat release. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film has been hanging fire with Karni Sena and other right-wing organisations demanding a ban on the film and threatening violence if it comes out.

Shahane shared four photos on Facebook where a big red cross is placed on placards demanding Padmaavat ban. Instead, she wants rape, sexual molestation and female foeticide banned.

The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film starring Deepika Padukone , Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh was initially banned in states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Haryana. But, much to the relief of the filmmaker and the distributors, the Supreme Court, earlier this week, allowed a country-wide release of Padmaavat on January 25.

The Supreme Court will hear appeals by the governments in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday to modify its order that allowed controversial Bollywood film Padmaavat to be released in theatres across India on January 25.

Bhansali’s Rs150-crore movie is based on Padmaavat, a poem written by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi about 500 years ago, which gives an account of a Rajput queen of Chittor choosing to kill herself rather than be captured by Khilji.

Historians are divided over whether the queen ever existed. Many Rajputs believe she did exist and accuse Bhansali of portraying her in a bad light.
