Nutan's granddaughter Pranutan Bahl is raring to go the Bollywood way

She’s the daughter of actor Mohnish Bahl and granddaughter of late Bollywood legend Nutan. Ask Pranutan Bahl if she plans to take the family legacy forward, and the 24-year-old self-confessed fan of Hindi films says, “I can’t wait to work in Bollywood. Given my legacy, I believe I can’t be a part of any and every project. It has to be a substantial character and the film must be helmed by a good director under a leading banner.”

Pranutan has been the talk of the town since her pictures with her father were all over the internet, recently. “My father and I just shared a few pictures on Facebook and that got all the attention. It’s wonderful when you get so much love from people. I’m happy they’ve commented how I look like my father and grandmother. It’s evident that I’ve taken to my paternal side.”

A fan of her family’s work in the film industry, she adds: “I loved my grandmother in [films such as] Sujata (1959), Bandini (1963) and Saudagar (1973). And my father was fabulous in Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) on the big screen, and in the TV show, Devi (2002-2004).”

A year or two back, Pranutan received offers via her father, but she couldn’t take them up because she wanted to finish her studies. The young girl has a double degree in law and is currently pursuing Masters at Mumbai University. But now, she’s open to doing films.

Does she worry about competition with other star kids who are ready to make their debut in Bollywood? “I think healthy competition is important. It helps you perform better. Jhanvi (Kapoor; daughter of actor Sridevi) and Sara (Ali Khan; daughter of actor Saif Ali Khan) are both stunning and talented. It would be great to debut with them at the same time,” says Pranutan.
