The Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA) has recently imposed ban on Pakistani artists working in Bollywood following the escalating tensions between Indian and Pakistan over attacks in the disputed territory of Kashmir (Uri). Since this decision came into light, it has become the topic of debate for a large number of celebrities. Some are defending Pakistani artists, while others are appreciating IMPPA for its decision.

Well, it looks like veteran actor Om Puri has spoken way too much then it was required. During a recent interview with a leading news channel where he was invited to be part of the debate about the IMPPA ban, the 65-year-old character artist has said something that is more than enough to make him the most loathed personality in India. He angrily stated that joining Indian army was the martyred soldiers' own decision. Nobody forced them into it. What? Really?

While taking the side of Pakistani artists, Om said, “Pakistani artists are not terrorists’ stand. You want India-Pakistan to be turned into Israel and Palestine and indulge in a fight for centuries? It is not merely a division of the country; it is the partition of families. Our country houses 22 crore Muslims and they have their relatives on the other side and vice versa. India has the second largest population of Muslims in the world”.

Up until this, the conversation was heading on the positive direction. But after that, the shocker came from Om’s side. He got infuriated and said, “Did we force them to join the army? Who had asked them to lift the weapons?” Few hours after his controversial statement, actor Paresh Rawal took to Twitter to slam Om for what he has said. His tweet read, “Never thought someone like Om Puri ji would make such a shameful comment. Sad. This is so heartbreaking”.

People are speculating that Om is talking in the favour of the Pakistani talents because he has worked in many cross-border projects. His recent Pakistani movie was Actor in Law that also starred Mehwish Hayat. Well, he has surely landed himself in deep trouble whatever may be his intention was.
