Politics Over Literary Honours Is Sad: Prasoon Joshi

Known for his contribution throughout the industry in movie like Rang De Basanti, Fanaa, Hum Tum and Ghajini, lyricist Prasoon Joshi expressed his feeling about the recent wake of literary figures returning the Sahitya Akademi awards. The actor said he felt sad because of the involvement of politics in the field. Prasoon has won several awards in his career including IIFA awards for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

In a statement, the lyricist said, “Politics over literary honours is sad. An artiste should be remembered for his work and not for returning awards. If an artiste expresses himself through his work, it has got more grace”. The returning of awards comes as a sign of protest against the murder of a writer in Bengaluru.

The BJP have responded to the protest by saying that it is unfair. They stated that there were no agitations when under the rule of Congress, Sikhs were slaughtered in Delhi in 1984. On the other hand, former Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore feels that the returning of these awards is a courageous and spontaneous move.
